Titbits... plus a new slant on blogging

It seems ages since I posted something yet it’s only been a few days. It’s due to a spell of idle-itis on the creative front plus a need to keep WI paperwork up to date. I have new ideas, one being an information sheet to hand out to members when they arrive for monthly meetings. The sheet contains dates for diaries and some announcements, with added graphics to make it more attractive, which seems a better way of helping ladies remember things. Some nod off, you see, although I’m not sure if it’s age-related tiredness or mere boredom that causes those little bouts of shut-eye. Giving them something to take home hopefully means they can digest the contents in their own time.

I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll ever write properly again! That sounds serious and I suppose in a way it is. When I try to write something new my brain seems to seize up. I can do a chapter here and there but quickly need to take a break. The last story took ages to do but I did find that if I wrote a chapter and then broke off for a day or two, or even longer, I was able to return and write more. The advantage of that was the train of thought taking another route which gave the story a different slant each time. Perhaps it’s a signal that the brain needs a rest, one of those debilating factors that come with age. On top of that, subject matter is harder to come by but that could be attributed to reduced access to the outside world where things happen to produce ideas.

Anyway, it doesn’t hurt to take a rest, does it? By reducing the amount of posts per week I have more time to myself. I thought maybe a post twice a week would be better although I can still visit my blogging friends on a daily basis.

Have a great week, y'all. Ciao!

  2. Good morning Valerie, taking a break is a good idea, especially as life keeps you so busy. Running the WI must take a lot of time and energy and I take my hat off to you :) Thanks for stopping by. It gave me a smile to know we had the same memory of the cream at the top of the milk :) Have a great week!

  3. I seem to read more than I write these days too. In fact I only seem to write in weekends when I gave the time. During the week I am exhausted after work.

The information sheet for WI sounds like a great idea.

  4. I have been dry for about a year but I still try to post a few memes and I spend several days a week keeping up with my bloggy friends. I enjoy reading.

  5. Brian, You have a lot to get through in a day, I'm always surprised you manage to blog as well. Thankful, though... smiles. It must be that time of year. Just this morning I have whispered goodbye to two blogging friends... sad to see them go but I do understand.

  6. Denise, the trouble is if I gave up blogging I would probably never write anything again. Something has to encourage me to keep my hand in. If I could get out with the camera I might at least get some pictures to show.

  7. Carol, I like to be creative and the computer is perfect for what I need and enjoy doing. I could start a new blog... that would give me something to do and think about... grins.

  8. BC, I did wonder if you were still writing. I hope you don't give it up completely.

  9. "I thought maybe a post twice a week would be better although I can still visit my blogging friends on a daily basis."

That's exactly what I did many years ago, Valerie. I was posting three times a week at first, but it became too much with working my job, writing posts, responding to comments, and also reading and commenting on other blogs. So I changed my posting schedule to two times a week and I like it much better.

Plus, as you said, it gives us more time away from the computer so that we can clear our minds and discover things to blog about for future posts. Yes, I think it's good to take breaks.

And kudos to you on your new ideas for the WI information sheet!

Have a lovely week, dear lady!

    X to you and Joe!

  10. I know what you mean about posting daily. It's time consuming. And so is reading all the blogs I follow! LOL. Maybe I'll have to cut back a bit too sometime.

  12. I'm reducing my blog time too Val. With three blogs on the go, posting and visiting CAN take up a lot of time. And my project pile doesn't seem to be getting any smaller. ;-)

I love that term: idle-itis!!! We've all had a case of that now and then. NOT that you sound like an idle person at all, far from it!

    Have a great week, G

  14. I always encourage folks to do what they need to do for themselves. It's really important, that "self care". In all honesty, Valerie, you have a full plate. Being busy helped me to stay focused of the tasks at hand. It also helped me to not over indulge in the "feelings" department. I didn't have time for that nonsence, dontchaknow. But being busy came at a cost, physically, emotionally and spititually/creatively.
It's good that you've gotten to the "better spend some energies in other things" place. And no, I don't think divorcing yourself from the blogging world is the answer...we're a good support group! LOL. But I think you'll be pleased with what a bit of ME time will bring you.
    ((( Valerie ))) There's my 2¢, for what it's worth. ;-)

  16. Ranita, I like your expression 'the mind is blocked' .. that is exactly how mine feels sometimes.
