CREATIVE WRITING

I have a collection of diminutive tales, written from the heart, without the benefit of research. Some are amusing, some serious, and some romantic. Also included is an occasional account on the serious or hilarious, depending on how the mood takes me.

I love creative writing, it stretches the imagination into unknown areas, bringing unexpected results.

Bearing in mind the seriousness of everyday life, I try to make my offerings as amusing as possible. The stories on this blog speak for themselves, the articles are anybody's guess!

A lot of my time was taken up with the WI (Women’s Institute) and spare time was taken up with computing and writing. I liked designing things and solving puzzles or problems. Sadly, all that is over, advancing age compels me to stay home and write a blog. Now I can spend time actually reading what I wrote all those years ago and often I utter silent exclamations in the vein of ‘Good gracious, did I write that?’

If you are a writer, don’t throw anything away, it does the heart good to look back and know that once upon a time ….. but that is the start of another story.

  1. Very true Valerie, I look back at some of my earlier writings and can see the changes I have made over time, it feel good to look back every now and then.

  2. Hi Jimmy, I suppose that's how the term 'grown-up writing' came about. Experience is a wonderful thing, isn't it?

  3. Great post. I have also lots of stories and a collection of humorous anecdotes. Some I put on the blog and some that hopefully will be published one day. Some need reworking perhaps? But I also enjoy rereading them. Keep writing Valerie.

Valerie, how right you are! That's one of the many wonderful things about having a blog for so long, You can look back over the years and see where you were then, versus where you are now. Several years ago I went through a period of going back over the 11 years that I've had my blog, reading random past posts to see how my life was back then and what I was sharing with my readers. I also read many of the comments I shared with my readers, noticing how so many of them aren't even blogging anymore. The cool thing about having a blog is that it's like a "life journal" that documents the journey of our life.

Out of all social media, blogging has always remained my favorite way to communicate with others online because it's quality, not quantity.

And thank YOU for being such a longstanding and loyal blogging friend; sharing your life and your talents!

Have a lovely weekend, my friend!

  5. Dave, whenever I look back at something I wrote I always find it necessary to make changes. I heard once that it is common so to do. The question is, should we change what we wrote before.

  6. Hi Ron. I must try looking back at blog posts, I hadn't thought to do that. The stories are on a separate blog - you may remember it, I'll go and check. Oooh I'm excited now, wondering what I will find.

  7. For some time now, I have been wondering if I should start a new blog (now that the blog's namesake, The Frog & Penguinn) is no longer our home. Perhaps, my hesitation is caused by laziness and lack of ambition to begin again. Then, after reading your post about saving things written in the past, I realized that in starting over, I lose" all the history of our past blogging and this would include lots of images, stories, etc. While in recent years, the focus and frequency of my blogging has changed, I am still considering whether or not changing would be good or not. Then, too there is the issue of "what to call a new blog?" Maybe I will just procrastinate a bit longer and keep using my current blog site :-)

  8. Beatrice, can you change the name and keep the blog? If you know how to copy what you have written you could transfer to a new blog or simply keep for future reference. I have all my work saved but then I was brought up to be a typist and secretary so it comes easy to me. It is good to have a challenge though, if I were you I would go for it. Whatever you do though, don't destroy your present blog, you may want to return or refer to it. I once had four blogs on the go, one about cats, one about dogs, a general one, and one about my W.I. Vals Rambling is still around, unused but there in case I want to copy something.

  9. Looking back at old blog posts really help me remember events, like vacations, personal milestones and even sad things. I always enjoyed writing as a kid, wished I had saved all of that.

  10. I'm often surprised when I look back at my blog. I've been keeping it for quite a long time now, I realise!

  11. I cringe reading old posts I've written on my blog. I suppose our writing style changes over the years more than we think.

Do you still do jigsaws? Also have you seen this website for online puzzles too. I find it a great deal of fun.

  13. Jenny, it has been a long time for me, too. The old saying 'how time flies' is still pertinent.

  14. Joe, styles do change but we only realise that when we look back. Shock, horror, sometimes!! Yes, I am a fan of jigsaws and am redoing all those I bought from Apple. The folk who created them did it in such a way I almost feel it is an actual puzzle rather than something on the ipad. I will have a look at the link you gave me.

  15. Valerie, thanks for the reply. I don't believe that I can change the blog name, except on the blog itself. In other words someone would search for it by the current name, but then the page header would be different, which could get a bit confusing. I know that an explanation could be included to the effect of "formerly known as ..."

As far as copying information to a new blog, that would be very time-intensive I believe, and I'm not sure it's what I'd want to do, but a good suggestion.

Once I decide on a name for another blog, I may take your final suggestion and just create it and then have my current one as well. I have no plans to delete it. And, I'm open to all suggestions on a name as well since I would like a new one to deal just with personal thoughts and observations.
