I watch two soaps on television
daily but not much else. Why? Because lately programmes seem to be more
educational than entertaining. I use the word educational loosely but it does
teach me about the world and the people in it.
I watch television in the
evenings, a time when I want something relaxing to look at. Instead I am faced
with violence, violence and more violence. Shouting, screaming, screeching,
fighting, murdering, is it any wonder the world has developed into a fighting
ring?
Don’t TV people realise what they
are doing, or that they must be held responsible for the way young kids act? Younger
minds will and do think that what they see on telly is normal behaviour in real life.
As for parents who murder their young children ... well, quite honestly, if I knew of one personally it would give me great pleasure in making sure that life behind bars is the best place for her or him. What a pity the death penalty no longer exists!
It’s knives where I live, in a
former respectable area. Knives to kill and maim and mostly used by teenagers.
What the hell is going on? What has led up to this new craze of killing? People
are stabbed as they walk up the road, stabbed for merely being there. I am
grateful for the fact that I no longer go out shopping.
I ask myself… why are these oafs
allowed to continue? Why are knives so freely available? Why, why, why???
And people wonder why I would like to see the return of the death penalty.
I never watch TV at all and I'm not sure many young people do anymore either. Everything they do is on the computer now and their phones. Knife crime is very, very scary.
ReplyDeleteJoe, it is getting that people are reluctant to go out. Even a simple shopping excursion is thought about twice.
DeleteValerie, I couldn't agree with you more. And this is one of the MAIN reasons why I don't watch television, in fact I don't even own one.
ReplyDeleteI understand that terrible things happen, however, the media (at least here in the US) LOVES to focus on it because they know it causes their viewers to tune in. Violence has become an addiction; like a drug. And a drug that is numbing people into not even realizing how terrible it is.
And to me it's not an issue of taking away guns, knives, or anything else people use to harm or kill others, because people will find other means to do it. No, it's more about changing the consciousness of people by stopping the glorification of violence. Because sadly, that's what it has turned into. Glorification through publicity, thorough our media.
Great post, my friend. And one that needed to be addressed.

Hi Ron. You put it so much better than I can. I agree that removing the tools is not the real answer. It needs bodies of people to spread the word, and educate people in the process. Are they afraid to speak out, do you think? It should start with our governments and local councils and the media. Surely they are not afraid to take action? I am thinking of talking to my local councillor on the off-chance that it might lead somewhere.
DeleteA very sensible post. I never watch soaps these days. They are far too depressing.
ReplyDeleteThey are, Dave. I have them on for company, would you believe. Half the time I don't watch but the noise is welcome. Perhaps I should block my hearing.
DeleteMy mother had her "shows" which was her time for us to leave her alone. So Different back then.
ReplyDeleteI believe the death penalty must be restored as well. Also, I believe that child molesters should be placed in the center of an arena and let the families take care of them.
People would say it was cruel but not me. I would fully endorse any move to stem the procession of murders. The death penalty was a deterrent and one which should be reinstated. Behaviour changed when it was abolished.
DeleteI am also among thise folks whi do not watch TV with the exception being some of the oublic broadcast shows which have nature, cooking and the like. We cut the cable years ago and rely on a digital antenna for on the air shows. Our viewing mainly consists of watching movies we own or streaming from Acorn TV online. Right now we’re watching Agatha Christie.
ReplyDeleteI must admit to liking radio programmes and music more than the rubbish on television.
DeleteI like to watch sitcoms at night, don't really care for the cop shows. I'll take dumb humor over violence anyday.
ReplyDeleteMe too, kden
DeleteThere was one of those newspaper cartoons I looked at. It was two people walking the dogs, a woman all frazzled looking and a man looking quite calm. Hmmm....why wasn't it the other way around? Anyhow, the woman said to the calm looking man, "I see you stopped watching the cable news!" So many awful things going on in the world, and we see the awfulness instantaneously and it is repetitive; repeat, repeat, repeat that awfulness, fear mongering, brainwashing? I've stopped watching the news and read about it more these days. I see what is going on without feeling 'frazzles', sort of.
ReplyDeleteI do still watch the news, Denise, basically to see what our politicians are up to. I need to switch off more often.
DeleteBetcha' your "formerly respectable area," has had an influx, of "people from other lands". (Am I allowed to say that term? Allowed by the Politically Correct Police...?) And these 'people', have youth, who have nothing to do, but run around with knives. They are not working, because your government is taking care of them. Yes?
ReplyDeleteIt's not the tv, which is the cause of your area's problems. It's the so-called "Do Gooders" who want to welcome everyone in. But bet, these 'people' are never housed, in the rich "Do Gooders" part of town.
Banning knives, will not fix your problem. These people are already there. Take their knives away, and they will use acid, or some other horror, like hatchets, used in Germany.
But no one will blame the real cause. It's not P.C., to do so. Not allowed.
So good people, continue to fear for their very lives.
Avid is already in use, but thbe stabbings haven't fallen. It is easier for younger persons to stick with the stabing.... for the hell of it, you understand!!
