IT WASN'T MY FAULT

I wrote this in 2010.
Little did I know that one day it would be a serious and very worrying problem

Not my fault!
He was drunk.
His brain
In a funk,
With Drugs.

Okay though
I was safe wiv me knife

Not MY fault!
He lashed out
Aimed for me face
Couldn’t have that -
Flippin’ disgrace!

Okay though
I still had me knife

Not my FAULT!
He shoulda
Stood back.
He shoulda known
I would attack

Okay then, I
Reached for the knife

Asked him outright
Your life or mine?
He didn’t reply
Didn’t give him
The time

Honest, Your Honour
It WASN’T my fault

  1. You wrote about knife crime before it even existed as an expression.

  3. Its so true Valerie. And so prophetic. I wonder why they have xray machines at airports but not in city centres?

    1. Perhaps all buses and the like should have xray machines, Dave. Violence has spread nearer to my peaceful area. It's scary.

  4. What a different style of writing in this poem, Valerie, and yes how times have changed in the years since you penned this piece.

    1. In times gone only boy scouts and professional workmen had knives but they were used for legitimate purpose, unlike today.
