It is no good pretending.

It's no good pretending! I must take a break because the back pains are too strong now. Sitting at the laptop is a real huge problem. Hopefully, on occasions, I might be able to read (and reply) to your blog entries but one thing I do know ... I SHALL MISS YOU ALL.

Here is a poem that only reflects the way I should feel.

I’M FINE THANKS

There is nothing the matter with me,
I am as healthy as can be.
I have arthritis in both my knees
And when I talk, I talk with a wheeze.
My pulse is weak, and my blood is thin
But I’m awfully well for the shape I’m in.
Old age is golden, I’ve heard it said
But sometimes I wonder as I get into bed.
With my ears in a drawer, my teeth in a cup,
My eyes on the table until I wake up.
Ere sleep comes to me, I say to myself
Is there anything else I could lay on the shelf?
How do I know that my youth is all spent?
Well, my get up and go got up and went.
But I don’t really mind when I think with a grin
Of all the grand places my ‘get up’ has been.
I get up in the morning and dust off my wits
Then pick up the paper and read the ‘obits’.
If my name is still missing, I know I’m not dead
So, I have a good breakfast and go back to bed.
The moral is this, as this tale I unfold
That for you and me who are now growing old
T'is better to say ‘I’m fine’ with a grin
Than to let then all know the real shape you’re in.

  1. Valerie, my dear friend, for some reason I had a feeling something was going on. I just felt it. Please know that you will continue to be in my thoughts, sending you LOTS of love and positive vibes for a speedy recovery. But trust me, I understand your need to take a break because that's how I felt years ago when I took that long break from blogging because of that lung issue I was dealing with.

You take care of yourself, and don't ever hesitate to email me if you wish to talk.

    Love you, my friend!

    (((((((((((((((( YOU )))))))))))))))))

  2. Valerie, I'm so VERY sorry to hear about your back problems but I fully understand. The agony of the pain can be devastating. I hope that, with rest and care, that you'll eventually be able to sit at the laptop again.

I have had two serious spinal injuries that never healed properly, which cause me constant pain. This morning it was so bad that I could hardly walk. It's nearly impossible to give the cats food and clean their litter boxes.
You and I seem to be in the same agonizing situation.

The poem that you shared is brilliant and hilarious - - but unfortunately so true.

Do take care. I (and many others) are sending love and positive thoughts your way.

  3. Whoever said "old age: the golden years" was obviously oblivious. Your poem said it well.

Back pain is hard to describe to someone who is young and flexible. I hear you, as my joints and arthritis are fighting a constant battle. Be gentle with yourself.

  4. My back plays up at time. So I have much sympathy for you Valerie.

  5. I am sorry to hear about your back pain Valerie. I hope that something can be done about it. It can be hard to persuade the doctor to book you an MRI but that really might help. Have you incidentally thought of having a "standing desk". Your back is in a more natural position if you stand. It's one of the things that Victorians got right, many of their clerks who spent all day at their desks actually stood up to do so. (I hope they got the chance to walk around and take a break sometimes though - not to mention sit down occasionally) In general I do think sitting is bad for us

  7. I will add my best wishes to the ones of everyone else, Valerie, and hope that a good rest and sadly (for us) a blog break will help your aching back. As Denise said, you need to take care of you and we will be here when you’re feeling better, take good care, blogger friend.

  8. I'm so sorry Valerie, I have been missing you. Do you have a reclining chair? I sit in my chair with my laptop on my lap. I have a little tray that it sits on so everything is the right height.

  9. I don't like to hear this at all, Val. Please feel better soon because our little corner of the internet wouldn't be the same without you. Take care.
