SERVICE WITH ... AN EMAIL

One day last week I decided to act on a recommendation for a DVD and purchase it from Amazon. The film was the 2013 version of The Great Gatsby. Amazon being Amazon they had it in stock so I ordered it straight away. Standard free delivery was chosen which meant a wait of about five days. Imagine my surprise when I received an email next day telling me it was being delivered there and then. Almost immediately after that, I received another message:

Hello,

We’re going to deliver your order, containing the item(s) listed below,
today.

"The Great Gatsby [DVD + UV Copy] [2013]"

If there’s nobody in when we arrive we’ll post through your letter box if possible, leave with an available neighbour or in your preferred safe-place, if you’ve previously provided us with those details.

Notice they said delivery TODAY.

The next message was even more of a surprise

Hello,

Your order, containing the item(s) listed below,
has been posted through your letterbox.

"The Great Gatsby [DVD + UV Copy] [2013]"

If there’s anything we can help you with, please contact Customer Service.

Actually, I heard the package being pushed through the letterbox so immediately went to collect it. That’s when I noticed the driver in a white van using his phone. Little did I realise he was sending me an email!

How’s that for service, or is it taking things too far?

  1. What great service! Takes a little longer this end. I've heard it's a good movie!

  2. Wow - that's some sort of service you got! I have not seen that movie. Let us know how it is. I did purchase "High Road to China" from Amazon and loved it. It stars Tom Selleck and Bess Armstrong. I have always really liked most everything Tom Selleck has ever starred in.

  3. Isn't that amazing Valerie? Once I needed a part for my camera. I went into a camera store but they didn't have it and were not that helpful when I asked if they could order it. I went on line and purchased it on Amazon. It arrived the next day!

  5. WOW...that's AMAZING service, Valerie! I've never ordered anything from Amazon, so I'm glad to hear that if I ever do, the service is speedy!

Hope you enjoy the movie!!! And please, please, please watch the bonus disc it comes with, which explains how the movie was made. It also contains a fascinating documentary on F. Scott Fitzgerald. The bonus disc is a movie unto itself.

    Have a lovely Monday!

    X to you and Joe!

  6. Paul, I'm about to find out about the movie.

Mona, it is quite incredible especially considering the reluctance of local stores to stock the items we want.

Denise, and we wonder why our shops are closing down!

Pearl, I actually think of Amazon before anywhere else... they never let us down. Must admit the emails were a surprise!

  7. Ron, I don't know about Amazon.com - we're the co.uk variety... smiles.

I haven't unwrapped the movie yet so I didn't know there was an extra bonus. I'm looking forward to watching the film. Thank you for the recommendation.

  10. What great service that was. I use Amazon a great deal. Two day delivery is the best I have ever had. Now when they get the drones (lol) working I will expect it that fast.

  11. It's funny that nowadays it seems you get better service when purchasing something online than you do when making a purchase in person. I've met many a grumpy salesperson at the local stores, but I'm always getting e-mail from online purchases asking if everything arrived okay, and is there anything we can do to make your experience more pleasant?

  12. Herman, maybe if the local stores adopted the same attitude they might keep more customers.

  14. Hey Brian, does that mean I'm one step ahead of you... smiles.

I loved that movie, haven't seen the new version though.

Happy Easter to you and Joe! :-)
