Joe bought this plant for me when he was in a romantic mood, explaining that it proved his feelings for me. It’s not something to be dismissed lightly so I chose a spot in the garden where it would grow and always be a reminder of Joe’s affection.
And there it stayed, for years, never growing much, and certainly never flowering. It made me feel sad but I kept it on the off chance it might suddenly decide to show its real colours!
Last year I had an upheaval in the garden, shifting stuff and creating a flower bed as replacement for untidy and rather large shrubs. The Camellia was shifted to the end of the new beds.
AND YESTERDAY I SAW IT…. COMPLETE WITH ONE BEAUTIFUL RED FLOWER.
Was it the move that did it, or maybe the new fern was protecting it, or perhaps it was trying to tell me something?
