Joe bought this plant for
me when he was in a romantic mood, explaining that it proved his feelings for
me. It’s not something to be dismissed lightly so I chose a spot in the garden
where it would grow and always be a reminder of Joe’s affection.
And there it stayed, for years, never
growing much, and certainly never flowering. It made me feel sad but I kept it
on the off chance it might suddenly decide to show its real colours!
Last year I had an
upheaval in the garden, shifting stuff and creating a flower bed as replacement
for untidy and rather large shrubs. The Camellia was shifted to the end of the
new beds.
AND YESTERDAY I SAW IT….
COMPLETE WITH ONE BEAUTIFUL RED FLOWER.
Was it the move that did
it, or maybe the new fern was protecting it, or perhaps it was trying to
tell me something?
That's a gorgeous flower and a fascinating story. Perhaps it finally bloomed simply because you moved it - - but, being a hopeless romantic, I tend to think it is trying to tell you something....
ReplyDeleteJon, I think you are right and I guess I am also a hopeless romantic.
DeleteI would say a combination of all three. What a wonderful surprise.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was a surprise, Dave. I had often thought of getting rid of the plant but never did.... thankfully!
DeleteI go with the last one, trying to tell you something.
ReplyDeleteI think and hope you are right, Joe.
DeleteOMG Valerie, this post brought tears to my eyes.
ReplyDelete"....or perhaps it was trying to tell me something?"
Yes, I most certainly do think it was trying to tell you something. That the love that you and Joe shared will live on forever!
I truly believe in "signs" and I think this was a sign.
And let me say that red camellia is STUNNING! I've ever seen one in red, only in white.
Thanks so much for sharing this sweet and touching moment, my friend!
Hope you're enjoying a lovely weekend!

Hi Ron. How strange, I have never see a white one. I'm glad it is a red flower otherwise I might might have missed it. I thought twice about blogging it and decided to share a bit of happiness.
DeleteIt's beautiful....
ReplyDeleteAnd obviously temperamental. Definitely don't move it ever again
Thank you, Kylie, and I agree. Also, I promise never to move the plant again.
DeleteThe romantic version - most definitely!
ReplyDeleteIt had to be, Elaine, considering its history.
DeleteSuch a sweet story. Plants are funny; it's hard to know what they need. Apparently the move was good for her.
ReplyDeleteNot knowing too much about gardening, I've always relied on nature. It paid off this time!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous bloom and a lovely memory Valerie.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Denise. I agree with you.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! This story has made my day. Perhaps it can serve as a message to make some little change or other, although I don't know what the reason is either.
ReplyDeleteJenny, it made my day too. If only flowers were long lasting!
DeleteThat's is awesome, Val. I'm sure it made you smile nice and big. And I am sure Joe is smiling down on this nice surprise.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Matt. It quite made my day. I just hope Joe was smiling as well. He was a very romantic man so I guess he would smile if he knew.
DeleteHow cool! I'm sure that was Joe's way of showing you how much he still cares. :)
