IMAGINATION CAN BE INTERESTING

When I sit down to relax I sit on a sofa facing the window and garden, and just lately I have been studying faces. Do you look at something and see something different. I know I’m crazy, but it’s something I have always done since childhood. I could look at the design in wallpaper and see a face, comical or otherwise. I guess I’m in my second childhood! I take a second look to make sure I didn’t imagine it and more often than not the eyes zoom in to where I want them to go. Other times, they let me down.

The other day I saw the profile of an old, pointed, beak-like nosed pixie, complete with green hat, but he escaped further detection. I searched the bush from afar, but it was no use. The pixie remained unseeable. Perhaps he ducked behind a branch, or maybe he’d just gone for a walk round. I took the photo hoping that someone else would be able to spot the face, to the right of the tabletop. No prizes, just proof that others can see it. The guy who came to service my gas fire spotted it, which made me feel less of an idiot.

He/it (the pixie) disappeared briefly when a strong wind blew the leaves all over the place but he/it returned when the weather calmed down and the leaves were still.

I couldn't see him/it at first, I guess the eyes or brain had rested but it wasn't long before I saw him/it again. It was a little bit windy and it looked for all the world as though he was chatting to something on the branch next to him, nodding his head in agreement with some interesting remark. I haven't lost him since. Every time I look he's there but I guess he'll move on next spring.

I have seen figures in bushes and trees and long grass. Now the big question is – am I going doolally! Answers on a postcard, please.

  2. Janet, I did wonder about marking the photograph but thought that might be going too far. Pixie's chin, nose and brow are directly in line with the table!

  3. I don't see a Pixie, but the couple on the upper left corner are...well lets just say you should stop publishing those pornographic trees!

  4. " am I going doolally!"

No, you are absolutely not going doolally, Valerie, because I do this all the time. I especially notice it while looking up at clouds in the sky; seeing various images as the clouds move and morph into other images.

Your post caused me to remember something about how we all see something different when we look at a piece of art. Some of us see one thing, while others see something completely different.

So perhaps it's our natural "artistic eye" that causes us to see things differently.

Fab post, my friend! Hope you're having a lovely day!

  6. Ooooh Ron, thank goodness I'm not the only one that 'sees things'. You are absolutely right about the way we see pictures, I hadn't thought of that. So I'm not an idiot after all! Must dash, it's getting dark and I might miss something. I still have to find that couple Joeh mentioned whaaaa!

  7. Clouds are my very favorite to see images in, Valerie. It’s a favorite pasttime when I am in a car, but only as a passenger. So I think you are just fine especially since you are at home and nit driving,

  8. Valerie I have always done this too, I especially see faces in woodgrain and tree bark, I definitely can see faces in your shrubs, so if you are going doolally I suppose I am going with you.

  9. Beatrice, I must try clouds, although action in the bushes might stop the eyes lifting towards the clouds. Maybe in the summer....

  10. Jimmy, it is a relief to know that others do the same things as me. I really did wonder if I was a little crazy. Note to self: must check tree bark!

  11. I often do the same, I think humans are programmed to try and make sense of random patterns. Occasionally I find that once I have spotted "something" it is very difficult to make it go away! So you are certainly not alone.
I couldn't see the pixie, but saw a rather ramshackle person who looked a bit like a scarecrow! :)

  12. Haha! I can see your pixie, and in the bush behind the table I can see a face like a theatre mask sticking its tongue out near the top left, and a bit further down, a very clear sheep's head - or it could be a goat! I can't see Joeh's naughty couple though.

  13. Jenny, I do believe I can see that ramshackle person, it is right by my pixie so I wonder I didn't spot it before.

  14. Jay, off to get binoculars now. I wonder if I will see more when using them!

  15. Well, I don't know if you are going doolally but you made me look it up. I was pretty sure I knew what it meant but I wanted to make sure. For what's worth, I think you are perfectly sane. Take care, Val.

  18. Oh good I'm not the only one. People have always been able to see things in the clouds haven't they? Sadly I can't see your pixie. One of our cats was called Pixie. Have a great weekend!
