My Tree

No-one knows the story,
only me
No-one knows the wisdom
of the old oak tree
He stood alone for many years
and watched the world go by
Seeing ever changing shapes
of clouds high in the sky

He talks to all the people,
although they never listen,
But I suspect the children know
he sheds some tears that glisten
Because he feels so lonely
and very, very sad
That everything in the world
today seems so very bad

But through the daily troubles
my tree still stands, so still
And straight and mighty
with an overwhelming will
To spend the time so patiently
to await the coming days
When the world will slowly calm itself
and gently change its ways

  3. This beautiful piece of poetry pulls at my heartstrings...brings a lump to my throat and a tear to my eyes...I wish to throw my arms around the trunk of the old oak tree...your words invoke such emotions and pictures...truly incredible work! Love you, Janine XO

  4. In Glastonbury there are 2 very ancient oaks, called Gog and Magog. Legend tells that they were mischievious witches, whom Merlin turned into trees. the certainly have a stooped, gnarled outline, with long bony "fingers" to grab the unwary walker.
