Isn’t it strange how everything
goes wrong at the same time. Last year ended and this year started badly. After
a few setbacks door locks were next to go wrong. Not just one, either.
23.11.17
Realign UPVC door at front
I found a firm of locksmiths in the
phone book and gave them a ring. Yes, the man said, I will send someone round
straight away. What a relief!
16.02.18
Realign back door and replace worn
handles.
The same guy came out in double
quick time.
27.02.18
Replaced mortice lock and cut keys.
This time it was the inner front
door, in other words the original before porch added.
The same guy came out.
This last time we had a laugh about
the frequency of fixing my door locks and I remarked (in fun) that there were
only another two to go.
He’s a nice guy with a sense of
humour. As he left my house he said 'Cheerio, see you next week’. Wouldn’t it be
funny if something went wrong and I did have to call him out in a week’s time?
After all that, the gas fire gave
me another headache. More on that later……
The guy will think you have a crush on him soon. ;)
ReplyDeleteI know all about everything happening at the same time. We have to have new gates, a new gas fire, new double glazing and tiling work done all at the same time. Not to mention a complete new bathroom that we keep putting off.
Nice that they've come out so quickly and got your doors fixed. Hope no more go bad.
ReplyDeleteJoe, it is strange how things seem to occur together. Re your first observation, I have to admit that the locksmith is very attractive!
ReplyDeleteJanet, there's only two more doors with old locks... Fingers crossed they keep going for a while yet!
ReplyDeleteI think things do happen in clusters. It can seem strange but would be even more strange I think if everything good and bad happened at exact intervals! :)
ReplyDeleteJenny, more things have gone wrong, but not with the locks. Right now i have frozen pipes that stop the wasing machine from working. Damn weather!
ReplyDeleteYep, it does seem that 'bad things' happen in clumps. Here too. It used to be August, the past several years it has shifted to the winter ... This year it has been exceptional, from family to objects.
ReplyDeleteI thought door locks should last forever. Our front door is so hard to open we have to be careful to not snap the key, happens when we have a prolonged very cold snap.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, it seems that once something starts breaking then everything does too. The next time you call him just have him look at all of your locks...that is unless you prefer him coming back sooner.
ReplyDeleteJimmy, I did tell him there were only two more......he just smiled! It made a nice reason for laughing.
ReplyDeleteCute story; at least you get a visitor now and then :)
ReplyDeleteSharon, it has been plain sailing up to now...then all of a sudden, wham! I guess it has to end sometime.
ReplyDeleteKden... That is very true. Never thought I would enjoy seeing so many workmen lol.
ReplyDeleteHope that is the last of your troubles for a long time. Take care, Val.
ReplyDelete"Isn’t it strange how everything goes wrong at the same time."
ReplyDeleteYou said it, Valerie! My expression about that is...."When it rains, it pours!"
Two years I had several things go bad at the same time (both my computers died at the same time). And isn't that how it always goes? Why does it seem that everything breaks at the same time?
Frustrating, isn't it?
Glad to read that you got your door locks corrected.
Have a lovely weekend, my friend!

Joeh, I wish they did last forever. Locks on uPVC doors seem to go faster than on wooden doors. Something to do with the 'hang' of the uPVC doors.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too, Matt, although with the awfully cold weather we're having anything could happen!
ReplyDeleteRon, you are right, things do seem to gather together in order to go wrong at the same time. I haven't even touched on the washing machine that was unable go work without water for several hours. I have never had a problem before but the extreme cold got to it this year, freezing the pipes - which is another thing I've never experienced before. Mind you, the snow is very pretty.... nobody seems to have been out to destroy the prettiness!
ReplyDeleteElvis sung an appropriate song:. "Do you ever get one of those days?" Sometimes the days turn into weeks.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, Dave, I loved that song. Thanks for reminding me of it.
