I AM INCENSED!

One headline amongst hundreds:
Middle aged man attacked, held on the ground and repeatedly stabbed.

Fortunately for those responsible for this terrible and worrying act he/she/they didn’t kill the man, therefore the guilty party, when found, will escape the death penalty …. or they would if there was one. I have said it before and am saying it again.

That’s just one ‘incident’. I have given up trying to count the vast amount of murders there are each day.

Murder is a crime, therefore it should be treated as one, not as something to play out by far too many people.

I can’t bear to read about children being slaughtered by their own parents. Is this normal? Why the hell are we English tolerating such behaviour?

Steps have got to be taken to stop the violence that is going on in my country. I know some folk are against the death penalty. I remember it well but throughout my childhood I only heard of a young soldier who was hung for murdering a girl on local parkland. I remember thinking that it served him right for taking another’s life. Now it is common to take lives and get away with it.

Okay, there’s always a prison term. Have you ever been inside a prison? Well, In my various jobs with Probation Service and Police CID, I learned that prisoners had it rough. They deserved punishment. Not so now. Putting people in prison is no good, not now they have it so good.

I heard the other day that prisoners might soon be allowed to have sex! A week in the stocks would be a better idea.

Punishment should be extreme. Killing a guy/woman/child should qualify the perpetrator for the same. I think they call that ‘an eye for an eye’. Why let him live when a loved one has been slaughtered?

I remember the days when hanging was in fashion. The prisoner didn’t suffer, at least the powers that be made sure that there was no pain. It didn’t happen often, only in extreme cases. But you rarely heard about a murder in those days. Why? Because hanging was a deterrent.

Sad to say - we have become soft in our dealings with murderers. Some will say that we would be treating like with like. But…. It WAS a deterrent and that is what we need now.  Maybe if it was brought back our teenagers would go back to playing football instead of walking the streets armed and ready to kill.

Finally, to prove my point that there are people out there who deserve to be shot.

Three year old boy, out shopping with mother,
victim of acid attack, injuring body and face. 4 men arrested.

I ask again, what the hell is going on in this world and why should we tolerate such appalling behaviour?

  1. I think crime is on the increase and it's very worrying but I don't believe in the death penalty, but I do believe life imprisonment should be just that, life.

    1. I respect your view, Joe, and wouldn't argue against it, but remembering the years when it was in existence I realise there were very few hangings - all deserved. Now, though, our prisons are not big enough to house all the criminals in the country, but the return of hanging might be the deterrent we seek.

  2. Agree with you. Swift and appropriate punishment is the only way to keep the next person away from doing such heinous crimes.

    2. My thoughts exactly, Haddock. Good to see you again.

  3. It is sad and sickening, there is no value for human life anymore. Police are overwhelmed, court systems are backed up and we mourn for people we don't even know.

    1. I agree, kden. There has to be an answer somewhere and the only one I can think of is to introduce an alternative punishment.

  4. I share your anger, not sure any of these things are that new, probably just more in the news...regardless we do need an answer to stopping the violence in my country as well. Personally I am against the death penalty on a moral ground and due to frequent mistakes.

If the death penalty was a deterrent I would perhaps change my mind, but I don't believe it is a significant deterrent.

I have no answer, but like I said, I do share you anger and understand your position.

    1. You are probably right. I can't think of any other way to deter people from killing others. Thinking back to when the death sentence was used, it seemed more of a deterrent. There were far fewer problems in the human race then.

  5. If the death penalty is announced and appropriate time is allowed for negotiation for reducing sentence, then the penalty should be carried out. Allowing prisoners to languish 20 + years in seclusion is the cruelest to families who wait for the sentence to be carried out.

    1. Agreed, Susan. Sad thing about families, sadly the criminals obviously don't care a jot about them.

  7. I always find myself shaking my head Valerie, horrific, heinous acts. Prisons should be prisons not holiday camps!

    1. Hi Denise.Generally speaking people keep very quite about this subject yet they will carry boards and placards over something a great deal more trivial. They want to change the world, but not this particular subject.

Valerie, not only in the UK, but the US as well. And it's getting more extreme every year. It seems to be (as least here in the US) that our justice system is more worried about politically correct; worried that god forbid they offend someone than seeing the truth, and say, "NO...this wrong!", and then do something about it.

Here is the US we've had many cases in which it was proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that someone murdered, and not only one person, but many people, yet, they remain in prison eating up tax dollars for YEARS and YEARS.

Like you, in cases of murder, I am for the death penalty. And why not? ‘an eye for an eye’ Yes, I'm all for it.

Great post, my friend. Glad you said it.

    1. Ron, I think our two justice systems are the same. Are they scared, do you think? I just head the headline news about yet another small child being the victim of an acid spray. Surely to God we can't keep on putting our heads in the sand? As a nation, GB has become soft. The people please themselves what they do and Government seems powerless to take steps to stop it. Ooooh, I am incensed.

  9. We should all be incensed, I agree. Incarcerating aomeone who has commited a violent crime and all the facts lead to that should not be imprisoned, but should suffer a similar fate. It’s notnonky happening in GB but in the US as others have noted. Just today I read an article about prison life and it seems like some prisoners do have a better life after being sent there. While Indon’t advocate an eye for an eye in all cases, in sonmany it seems to be deserved. Perhaps more of us should express our feelings as yiu have, Valerie.
Also, thanks for the comment on my post about our current USA road trip. I was going to wait until we were backnto blog about it, but that would have been so much harder to recall all the places we are seeing. Hope you enjoy the adventures.
