QUESTION!

The layout of this blog is not good for displaying comments. My replies don’t match up and if someone wants to read my response to a comment they have to search for it.

I always reply to comments made but get extremely fed up when I can’t put my reply immediately after the comment. Other bloggers don’t seem to have the same problem as me.

It goes like this: I write a post, which is followed by a comment to that post. Now, if I want to respond to that comment it appears way down the list of followers. Apparently, comments go by date and if I don’t read them the second they’re published, I have to go to the bottom of the list.

It seems the only solution is to change the style of my blog but the question arises ….. how?

  1. I wonder if you go into your settings and click on “settings”, and then on “posts, comments and sharing’. Nip over to where it says “comment location ‘, and where you see the box on its right, choose the setting ‘embedded’. I believe this will give you the ability to reply to each comment individually as they appear. Hopefully another commenter can confirm these actions. If you would like me to send you screenshots of each step, let me know and I will be very happy to do that for you. Sometimes for me it is easier to see the visual. 2. Thanks, Denise. Going to settings NOW. Will let you know how I get on.

  3. No good, Denise. Did everything you said, clicked on embedded which I had already done years ago but there was nothing else to press. Perhaps my version is an oldie... I haven't changed for may years.

  4. Hey Valerie, I was going to suggest the same thing that Denise did. Before I started using Disqus, I used to use the "embedded" feature on my blog because I wanted to be able to respond to comments directly below theirs.

That's strange that it's not working on your blog.

Hope you can work it out.

Have a super day, my friend!

  5. Hey Ron, see above comment to Denise. I followed her instructions but once on 'embedded' that trail ended. There was nothing else to do. Seriously, I have checked and rechecked but there's nothing else I can do.

  6. Have you tried Blogger help? I also change my blog template from time to time and it seems to wake it up when it's playing up. Good luck Valerie.

  7. I haven't tried blogger, but I will. Thanks, Dave. It appears my blog is different because no suggestions seem to fit my blog. Frustrating or what?

  8. Thanks, everyone, for your advice. I skittered round and came across a guy who was an expert Google man. Apparently, the blog was missing something or other but he guided me through and voila - see the result. For information - it wasn't me, it was something in computer language that I don't understand!!

  9. Glad to read that your problem was solved, Valerie. I generally don't reply to comments within the comments section. This is not because I don't appreciate ones left but an unsure if people return to read them. So I often thank folks in a follow-up post. That said, I read the comments to your blog as well as your personal replies and enjoy them both.

  10. Beatrice, I like reading the comments. Some folk return to read my reply to their comment, others don't bother.

  11. Glad to see you sorted out the problem, I used to have it too, but when I completely changed my layout and used a new one it solved the problem.
