MEMORY FAILURE

My memory and powers of awareness have failed, and to think that only recently I was patting myself on the back for being astute.
Each week I order enough ready meals to last me a week. They go in the freezer and I top-up when the numbers go down.
This week I gave the suppliers something to laugh about. I hope!
While the delivery guy was unloading my order in the kitchen, I hastened to make space on the kitchen counter. Several of the just delivered items were shifted to the fridge in the outside extension, then I returned to carry on helping the guy unpack the rest. After he left, I started to put the goods away. First, I spotted a huge bag containing sixteen (16) packets of cheese and onion crisps…. which I hate and which had not been ordered. I do have ready salted crisps in smaller bags of 6 so I don’t know where they got 16 from or cheese and onion.
After complaining by phone, I set about putting other stuff away. It was then I realised more items were missing. Six ready meals to be exact.
Of course, I had completely forgotten that I had shifted some and mentally accused the delivery man of not delivering the full order. I think I must have had the problem of the crisps in mind which stopped me concentrating on the job in hand, e.g. putting other stuff away.
Can you imagine how awful I felt after ringing the company yet again to admit my mistake?
Within minutes I received an email to tell me I was being reimbursed for the wrong delivery of 16 packets of crisps, four of each flavour. I sent polite thanks but deliberately didn’t mention the state of my brain; nor did I request the attendance of a crisp lover to help eat the unwanted cheese & onion, salt & vinegar, or prawn cocktail. I can manage the ready salted on my own.

  1. If crisps are potato chips, I love cheese and onion and salt and vinegar.

    1. Yes, we call them crisps. I have your favourites in abundance. Pity I can't post them to you.

  2. It's not always easy to admit a mistake - - but it's very easy to make one when your mind is cluttered with many conflicting thoughts and concerns. It has happened to me many times (more times than I care to remember).

If I lived near you, I'd help you eat those cheese and onion crisps!

    1. Hi Jon. I have found that admitting mistakes helps to get over them. It's certainly easier than trying to cover them up. Must check with the post office to see if they deliver parcels of crisps to far away places.

  3. Valerie, I laughed out loud when I read your final sentence...

"...nor did I request the attendance of a crisp lover to help eat the unwanted cheese & onion, salt & vinegar, or prawn cocktail. I can manage the ready salted on my own."

    Brilliant!!!

I find that the older I get, the more I'm forgetting. My forgetfulness in when it comes to remembering people's names. And I don't just the names of people I'v recently met, but also people I've known for YEARS. My mind suddenly goes blank and I can't remember.

Like you, I don't like the fancy flavored chips, I prefer them simply salted.

Have a glorious Sunday, my friend!

    X to you and Charlie!

  4. Ron, as long as we keep laughing we will get unscathed. I was told once, but didn't believe it, that names are the first things we forget (note that I said WE) and like you I have felt the same unbelievable fact of forgetting names of close friends. Erm..... what did you say your name is?

Had a quiet Sunday. Charlie slept most of the day and I just sat and worked on my puzzle book.... a simple one, suitable for brainless folk.

    Enjoy the forthcoming week.

  5. Easy mistake to make, you had your mind on the crisps, as I think most people would. I don't like cheese and onion crisps either but I think I'd force myself to eat them!

    1. I tried the cheese and opinion and finished the lot, although it was an effort be cause of the unusual taste. Just think, in fifteen days I might have finished the lot.

  7. My 2 cents...

Be happy that you can still eat salted things!!!! ,-)

I have to try to cut way down on salt, now. And it is very difficult. -sigh-

But of course, any of these things, we have to do, to try to maintain health, aren't really such a burden. lol. Silly me, for complaining.

Just remember, to really savour those chips. For me!!!!!! -smile-

    1. I haven't ever consulted anyone about my salt intake, although until now it is minimal. I never add salt to food, although I don't know how much is in the ready meals that I buy. Perhaps I should investigate.

  8. Glad it all worked out for you, Val. And you gave me a nice chuckle too. Feel free to use those letters I posted on my blog.

  9. This post gave me a smile as I too have had bouts of forgetfulness, Valerie. I am not that fond of crisps or potato chips as we call them, but give me cheese crackers and I am happy.

    1. I don't mind the odd crisp or two but 20 packets (yes 20, I got it wrong when I said 16) - as I was saying, 20 packets is too, too much.

  10. Awww, been there, done that! You are not alone Valerie, I have started taking photos when I put things away (i.e. tidying things into oblivion when company comes) so that I can look at my photos to see where a missing item is. It works most of the time but...

    1. That's a brilliant idea, Denise. I will copy it. The mobile phone is always in my pocket so I would have the information at my fingertips at all times. Can't wait to get started, although that 'but' made me nervous.
