MORE OF THIS AND THAT....

THIS AND THAT

Printer breakdown needed expert help. Will come this afternoon, said my local computer man - only he didn’t. Apparently, he completely forgot! Perhaps when he does come I can forget to pay him! Meanwhile: Printer decided to bite the dust! Guy popped round to check and gave me the bad news. On a day when gas fire had its yearly check at a cost of £90 I then had to fork out a similar same amount for a new printer. Ever had that feeling it’s not your day?!

2 Printer replaced along with the iPad that decided to break down in sympathy. What a good job I had a tax rebate!

3 New iPad good but, unlike my old one, it won’t let me get on Apple – they and Google sent number codes in the middle of the night which by morning were invalid because I hadn’t used them straight away.

4 Next breakdown: Communication with Apple! Passwords not recognised, instead I am compelled to use the new (to me) fingerprint system. I wish I could, nothing happens when I try to do it.

5 Happily typing away, copying several pages for the blog and saving as I went along, I tuned in this morning to type some more, only to discover that NONE of my recent labours were saved. I had been using a link on the desktop – which I have done for years - but according to the mystery man who works in the background the link no longer works. Am having to type it all again. NOT A HAPPY BUNNY.

6 Rubbish phone calls… my latest was at 8.30 am from a foreign guy who informed me that it was time to renew my call blocking service.  I didn’t tell him I don’t have that service but I had great pleasure in slamming the phone down.

7 New Phone much better than the hopeless and useless one bought not too long ago. Cheapo phones these days means we take a chance on purchases.

8 Is there no end to breakdowns? Old TV died, never to be revived. I measured it before neighbours took me to the shop but nobody told me I had to measure corner to corner. No wonder I was surprised by the size of the new one.

9 I keep getting messages from Google asking if I want to create an ID that gets me everywhere, not just Google. Ooooh, I’m suspicious. Has anyone else heard of this and, if so, does it really work?

10 Finished retype of Doggy Tales. Now wondering about blogging it like I did Cat Tales.

11 Latest evening gear for women – jumpsuits. That must mean a complete strip to use the toilet.

12 Yet another problem in the house loo. Strange noises coming from (I thought) attic area turned out to be the start of a flood. Plumber fixed it in no time.

13 If there’s anything else I’ll leave the country!

  1. Sorry, Matt, your comment went missing..... don't ask because I don't know how.

  2. Oh my word you have had a lot going wrong at the same time! I didn't realise an ipad could just die on you, now you are making me worry about mine which is pretty old. My printer is on it's last legs too.

But I did know about measuring a TV screen from corner to corner.

I hope your weekend is now stress free!

    1. Joe, my ipad was very old. Like you, I didn't think it would break down. On reflection I realised it needed charging more often, but then there was nothing. Computer guy said it happens after the amount of years I'd been using it. Weekend is good, just started another jigsaw.

    2. I'm working on a new jigsaw at the moment, I bought on Amazon really cheaply. It's called "King and Country". Not really my cup of tea, but it was only £3.50 brand new so I couldn't resist. Following on from my latest comment. Once it's done I'll list it on ebay.

    1. So do I, Janet. It's lovey to see your name on the comments list, it means you are feeling better. Keep that up, there's a good girl.

  4. Thing can only get better. I hate having to relearn on a new computer. It's like breaking and getting use to new pet.

    1. Joeh, I handled a new pet much better than I did all the recent problems. I was beginning to think I had learned nothing about computers and the like.

  6. Oh dear, the imps of technology do rather sound as if they have it in for you, Valerie. I suppose you could say it keeps you on your toes. I absolutely loathe any kind of technology and greatly admire you for tackling all this stuff. Keep on trucking!!!!

    1. Jenny, once upon a time I could face anything to do with computers but not so these days. It's age, you know, but I'm still trying.

  7. I am hoping that nothing else goes wrong or needs replacing in your home, Valerie. My iPad is also a bit older, but not as old as my laptop which I plan to replace soon. The old one is working, but it's 7+ years old and anything can go wrong and at any time. I haven't had any recent Google issues, although several friends told me they have had to change passwords.

    1. Be prepared to face all the changes made in iPads and laptops. I was VERY surprised. I think stores should let us scrutinise these things before we buy them.

  8. Oh my, what a time you've had! My Mom is on her 2nd IPad, got it in 2015. She would be so lost without it, so I hope it hangs in there. I've known about the tv measuring thing but it sure doesn't make any sense on why it's done that way.

    1. kden, your Mom should be okay with the iPad she's got. Mine was a lot older than that so, in a way, it was understandable that things would have changed.
The TV measuring has certainly given me something to talk about:)

  9. THIS AND THAT

1 Frustrating and yes I have had ‘one of those days’ too many to remember over these years, but not lately thank goodness. Hope I haven’t just jinxed myself ;)

2 Oh dear, not a good day.

3 New iPad Good grief, you’d think those codes would last for at least 24 hours!

4 Next Well, technology is great until it drives us batty. Passwords are a peeve of mine at the moment. The fingerprint also gives me a fit. It never works when I have just washing my hands after drying!

5 And the joy continues. Lost a few of my posts over the years so I know how you feel.

    6 Rubbish phone calls…are rubbish :)

7 I’m happy to hear that at least your new phone is in good working order. Hope it continues.

8 Yikes, and now the old TV. When it rains it pours. I hope you enjoy your bigger screen.

9 I don’t trust any messages on the Internet anymore, especially when they ask if you want to create a new password. I don’t think Google would do that to be honest. You’re right to be suspicious.

10 Please blog doggy tales, I did so enjoy your cat tales

    11 Jumpsuits, not practical!

12 Glad you acted quickly and there was no flood.

    13 We’ve got a spare bedroom for you :)

    1. Loved your replies, Denise. Thank you for taking the trouble to answer every item in my list. Re bigger screen... it's taken over the room. I prefer the other, I feel as if I am sharing the house with other people :}

  10. Sounds like the Elvis song: Did you ever get one of those days?

I feel like I have had my arm chopped off when I can't see the Internet.

  11. Dave, I don't mind odd trouble filled days but when they stretch into weeks I get really fed up. Know what you mean about arm and internet.

  12. Don't you love how when it rains, it pours?

Valerie, last year my printer also bit the dust. However, I was lucky to catch a sale at Staples (an office supply store in the US) and got a new HP printer/scanner for only $40.00!?!

"I keep getting messages from Google asking if I want to create an ID that gets me everywhere, not just Google. Ooooh, I’m suspicious. Has anyone else heard of this and, if so, does it really work?"

Yes, I keep getting the same message from Google, not only on my computer, but on my smart phone as well because it's connected to my Google account. As much as we all rely on Google for so many things, I am VERY leery of it because of all the data it's constantly uptaining when we're online.

"Strange noises coming from (I thought) attic area turned out to be the start of a flood. Plumber fixed it in no time."

Ironic, because I too had a leak (in my kitchen ceiling) that I caught at just the right time because there was a leak in the water pipe in the ceiling of my apartment building. Luckily, I was home when it happened, so I had no damage. My landlady thanked me profusely for discovering it and letting her know before the leak got really bad.

Hope you're having a FAB Sunday, my friend!

  13. Hi Ron. I haven't heard or seen any complaints about Google but you never know with internet anyone could be posing as the big G. How would we know? Thank goodness you caught the water leak before it got any worse. I was lucky to have strange noises as a warning.

Oh well, press on regardless. Let's not over worry about these things or we'll all be queuing up at the cemetery for a plot:))

Have a good week, Ron, and don't do anything I wouldn't do!

  15. Misery loves company I guess. As I'm all empathy on your bad day, For me adjusting to living alone will take time, learning new survival skills like cooking etc. Still Mrs. T Barb I no in a safe place ("memory care") so I'm sleeping bit better. Try no to let all this modern technology stuff get you down. Keep on keeping on as they say...:) ray

    1. I think it's worse for a man. When my Joe died I was able to carry on in my own way, doing the things I always did. I sympathise with you and offer encouragement because it will all fall into place even if you find it difficult to face.
