The lion sleeps in Lucerne.
I can read the inscription over the sculpture but cannot translate it ... and the one underneath is unclear in every aspect of the word. There was no tour guide to relate the story since Hubs and I were there on an eleven day vacation. We came across this scene almost by accident because it was hidden away from the main thoroughfare. I remember the holiday well; it rained every day.
wow val...absolutely love this what cool art...bet that was a challenge to do in the cliff face as well...
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure tucked away in the hillside! It's just beautiful. I had to look twice to make sure I wasn't seeing things!
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL sculpture, Valerie!

Amazing.
What an amazing place to tuck it away for discovery.......
Wow! Where did you snap this pic?
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your comments. Lucerne (Switzerland) is a place I would like to visit again providing the weather was better than before. I'm grateful to Mel for researching this (Loyalty and Courage of the Swiss) ... I am ashamed to say I didn't think to do that.
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing work carved out of the rock. I have never seen it before. It is a marvel.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Val. Try posting the inscription into an online translator.
ReplyDelete... forget the online translator... I just saw the answer in the comments.
