Kaleidoscope

Isn't it amazing what we can do with pictures these days? Take a simple picture and turn it into...

...this

a kaleidoscope

It reminds me of the kaleidoscope I played with as a child, when I was totally mesmerised by colourful moving patterns. Not once did I think I would actually be able to achieve similar results just by pressing a button, but then I wouldn't at such a tender age.

It's quite exciting to mess about with pictures, enhance them, distort them, or change them into something quite different to the original. Now I look at picturess in the press and wonder if they're genuine. I recently saw some examples of how doctored photographs can be used to influence important issues, like politics. It appears that these days nothing is sacred and I find that very worrying.

  2. Cheshire wife is right, we have to be discerning about all we read and see. The manipulation of facts is very common on the internet and TV.

  4. GREAT effect, Valerie!

Yes, I can spend HOURS edited and messing around with my photos. It's so much fun! In fact, last night I was doing just that.

True, you can never be sure about the photos we see online or in newspapers or magazines, which ones have been doctored and which haven't. Having worked for a photographer as a stylist on photo shoots, it always amazed how photo editing can turn a not-so-good photo into an AMAZING photo.

Hope you're having a great day, dear lady.

P.S. It's snowing here today. Well, not actually snowing, more so snow mixed with rain.

  5. Doctored photographs? Hmm, how low can some people get? Kaleidoscopes... makes me smile to think how easily pleased we were. Thanks Val.

  6. I find it very worrying, too--though this is an example why I can't be bothered with the press and their antics. *sigh* There's enough around me that wants and needs my attention, I guess. I spend my energies there. :-)

It's hard to believe most things in the papers nowadays!

  12. I used to love my kaleidoscope, and looked at it for hours. It seemed almost magical to me. I wish I could recapture that sense of wonder now when I look through kaleidoscopes. I suppose I had more time then, and wasn't always bothering around about having to do something else.
