CONFESSION TIME!
I feel a bit of a fool for panicking when everything except my phone failed me. These things shouldn't happen to the likes of me 'cause I don't cope well when things don't go right.
When the laptop went into inaction I thought it was the mouse. Yes, I still use a mouse!! I changed the battery, thinking that would solve things, but IT DIDN'T. At first I thought the laptop had packed up as well because the mouse wouldn't work on it.
I knuckled under and persevered in an attempt to work the thing without the mouse. It was like groping in darkness because I was a 'remote mouse' lady who had forgotten how to work the damn machine without one.
I tried unsuccessfully not to panic but that didn't work either and I feel ashamed to have bothered people when all that was wrong was weather interference. You would think someone in authority would have tapped me on the shoulder and given me the awful news instead of watching me go into an almighty flap.
Well, this morning I had another look and guess what.... EVERYTHING WORKED.
According to my neighbour the whole area where we live was deprived of computer access. Something to do with ice!
I think I should ask for compensation for a damaged brain. Okay, I promise not to panic in future, but time will tell.
Good morning, Valerie!
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear that things are up and running again and that it was only due to weather conditions and not something with your computer - WHEW!
"Yes, I still use a mouse!!"
Yes...I still use a mouse as well. Don't like using the touch pad on a laptop.
Have a faaaaabulous weekend, my friend!
P.S. And speaking of ice, we're experiencing freezing temperatures here as well.
Oh Valerie I have done the same thing when our internet went out once, I was ready to tear into my desktop and stare blankly at the motherboard like a guy will do with his car engine when it breaks down, stare blankly under the hood...I did go so far as to change out my mouse too.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that the ice situation has been remedied and that everything is working for you now.
I think you had a normal reaction, we're so use to the internet we just assume it's working. Though ours has been more out than in lately.
ReplyDeleteThat would have had me in a tizzy as well.
ReplyDeleteRon, I felt such a twerp this morning when I found out that things still worked!! Oh well, put it down to ignorance which, after all the years of typing, shouldn't be tolerated. I worked out how long I had been typing .... 70 years. Say no more!
ReplyDeleteJimmy, it is great to know I'm not alone but I wish I had the sense to realise the problem was outside forces rather than mine. Duh!
ReplyDeleteMy family tell me I am addicted to the Internet. I strongly disagree and then have withdrawal symptoms when its not working or I can't look at the blogs.
ReplyDeleteHi Dave, I know EXACTLY what you mean!
ReplyDeleteWe rely so heavily on our electronics, it's hard to remember what it was like before them! Can't live without them, but they can drive us crazy when they don't function properly. Glad everything is in working order :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are sooo right, Carol. I wonder how we would manage if all our internet gadgets were removed for evermore.
ReplyDeleteWhenever we travel, the only thing we care about in a hotal room is that the internet service is working well. So, Incan fukky understand hiw you felt, Valerie. Glad everything was sorted out and only caused by nature. I switched from using a mouse to a touchpad.
ReplyDeleteOh my this sounds so familiar. Modern technology fails me in droves often at the same time when I panic but.... also the bathtub wouldn't drain and tried several remedies which failed... and gave up and switch to shower for two month despite my aching back... and the deciding I could not longer live with a hot bathe determined to call and expensive plumber but decided to test the bathtub and more time!!!!! Voila! It worked. I believe the principle is called "benign neglect...:)
ReplyDeleteBeatrice, I am hopeless with touchpads. Not sure why because I know how to do everything else. Perhaps it's the feel of the mouse I like.
ReplyDeleteTB, it is such a relief to know that other people have similar problems to me. Had to smile at yours, though, and I bet you were as shocked as me to find there was no problem in the first place.
ReplyDeleteHi agaain Valerie, I read your comment on my blog post about not receiving as many holiday greetings this year. It seems to me as well that fewer and fewer people are doing any sort of written communication these days. Sadly, folks seem to think that facebook and e-cards will be enough, but for me and thankfully some ithers it is not, I do not do any other social media, other than blogging, and that’s fine with me. But, I do so enjoy writing cards, notes, letters, and emails...so if you would like to exchange some please contact me by my email on our blog. It would be lovely to hear from you. Sending you best wishes for a Happy New Year🥂🍾 ny friend!
ReplyDeleteYou're not the only one. Same happened to me a few years ago. A quick call to my internet provider cleared up the muddle. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you!
Greetings from London.
Hi Beatrice. I should have said that since Joe died the receipt of Christmas cards diminished because a lot of them were from business colleagues and clients. I do still get cards from those unconnected to Joe's business. However, it is kind of you to invite me to email you.
ReplyDeleteYou are right about the lessening of cards due to Facebook etc, That and similar 'get-together' set-ups don't appeal to me. I gave it a try but disliked the idea of outside forces reading what I said to friends, and were able to see photographs without my knowing. People think what they display is safe, I wish they knew otherwise. Once again, wishing you a Happy New Year.
"almighty flap", ha! I will have to remember that. You should see our house when our internet goes out. Panic ensues :)
ReplyDeletekden, perhaps we should have a contest to see who can swear the loudest...lol.
