Rod McKuen, American poet and songwriter, who died in January this year.
There is no single day or time
within the life
I've so far lived
that I'd have changed
or altered
Possibly there are some days
I could have missed
and never missed,
but I suspect that I could not
have come down to this place
a different way.
As I suspect that being here
I don't as yet know where I am.

Valerie, thank you so much for sharing this clip because even being American, I honestly had not heard of Rod McKuen before. His voice does sound familiar, but I don't recall knowing anything about him. What a powerful song!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love these lines of his poem...
"There is no single day or time
within the life
I've so far lived
that I'd have changed
or altered. I could not
have come down to this place
a different way."
How true! I truly believe that every decision or path we've taken has brought us to where we're supposed to be today.
Thanks for sharing, dear lady! Have a lovely weekend!
X to you and Joe
Oh, goodness, I somehow missed news of his death. How strange. But what a nice clip.
ReplyDeleteHi Valerie. So glad you shared this song and video. Very moving.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I listened to that song a couple more times, and there's really great lines in it - esp. about weeding out the leaders that no longer lead.
ReplyDeleteRon, I am surprised that you hadn't heard of Rod. I was a great fan and I still listen to his songs and read his poems. He was a down to earth guy who sang about true life. Loved him.
ReplyDeleteMona, I just wrote a reply to Ron that Rod sang about true life. There was meaning in all his music and poems.
ReplyDeleteOne truth that goes with the song is the real heroes in the world do not try to be heroes but do want is needed when the time comes.
ReplyDeleteRod McKuen was such an icon to us, when we were newly weds. Sorry to hear of his death.
