PILLOW TALK

My Joe didn’t often go shopping on his own but he decided that when he needed a new pillow he was the one to buy it. What he meant was, he wouldn’t like what I chose. So I let him go to the store on his own, secretly pleased since the two of us together should never be let loose in big stores.

He spent more on the pillow than I would but that was his affair, not mine. Actually, his choice was good, or so he said. It was one of those pillows that remembered where you liked to put your head but always came back to the original position … a bit like memory foam, I suppose.

I have a memory foam mattress and hate it. However, since it is less than two years old I have to put up with it. Do you like sleeping on a bed that tells YOU where you should lie? I like to be my own boss in my own bed so one of these days I might change the damn thing. But I’m getting away from the subject……

Pillows!

I have to admit that my pillows were long past their sell-by date. In fact, they could be classed as archaic. So, I turned them over to the cat since he likes a pillow to lie on. One here, another there, sort of thing. I think he likes the pillow cases as much as anything. So what to do? Well, it’s obvious, use Joe’s still-new pillow – me, not the cat.

It is comfortable to lay the head on but moving to a different position promotes pillow talk. Yes, it makes peculiar noises while it settles in the new place. No kidding. I sometimes do a count to see how long it takes to settle. I guess you could say the pillow won’t settle until it’s had a chat but I ask you – at midnight? I need to sleep, I don’t need to have a conversation with a stupid pillow that is still as good as new so doesn’t warrant being chucked out.

Does anyone else have a talking pillow?

  1. A talking pillow, must be some experience! I am one of those who can do without a pillow come to think of it. Warm greetings!

  3. Joeh, it's a long time since I had a pillow I could fluff up. Maybe I should try and find one in the stores.

  4. Ron, oh yes, I remember that film.

My pillows don't fit any category except the one marked 'hate'....lol. My advice is to avoid pillows that have minds of their own. I have noticed that Charlie doesn't like them either.

In case you're wondering what happened to the short-lived last post re the state of our nations.... it was inadvertently deleted. I do posts in draft first and when published remove the draft. Somehow, the draft got deleted and that caused the blog to dispose of it as well. I have no idea how it was done, or why.

  5. Jimmy, I put the make of pillow at the top of this blog.... make a note and avoid it like the plague. I thought it was inspirational to use the expression 'pillow talk' gggg

  6. No talking pillows here, Mac likes his virtually flat, I like firm. I bought a really firm one about 9 years ago and it is still firm, best pillow I ever bought, wish I could remember what kind it is.

  7. Janet, I was always better with a firm pillow. I think, once I can get out, I should go find one in the stores. I used to sleep flat, which is better, but not so now. I think I should make efforts to find one that really suits me. Shops seem only to sell this memory foam rubbish.

  8. Never talked to a pillow but talk to myself frequently. Usually in an argumentative manner...:)

  9. I would like to believe that I had a talking pillow but I gather it stopped talking to me long time ago. What with the nightmares... :-)

    Greetings from London.

  10. My pillow doesn't talk to me. But I'm with you on the memory foam for sleeping. I much prefer the traditional pillow and mattress. Plus the memory foam retains heat I believe. Not good for those of us who sleep hot!

  11. Valerie, while my pillow doesn't talk, I think it too is past its replacement time. My husband, however, doesn't agree and says not to touch his pillow even though both were bought at the same time in the same store. In fact, That said, I did get him to try a new pillow a couple of months ago. He tried it for a few minutes then insisted on using the older one. And, I too didn't find the new one comfortable. Bottom line is we are still using the "old" ones and my husband says they are just getting broken in after 4 years!

  12. Beatrice, I swapped pillows last night - new for old - and was grateful for the silence. No more memory foam for me, that's for sure.

  13. Ron got me a memory foam pillow many years ago. I have herniated discs in my neck/back and it does actually help with some comfort. I have come to really need it actually. It doesn't talk to me though. lol Well, maybe it is talking to me in some way... it's a bit out of shape now and gets bunched up sometimes. Might be time too look for a new one soon. They are pricey, but so is the chiropractor when my neck is out of whack. haha

  14. I have been using a buckwheat pillow for many years. They're smaller and noisy (crunchy sounding), but the best thing I've ever used. It even goes on vacation with me.

  15. kden, I am hearing about all sorts of pillow fillings, as well as your buckwheat there is one with charcoal.... I guess that could be handy for scribbling in the night. I almost wish I'd never started this lolol.

  16. CrystalChick, I too have to meet the cost of chiropractor but I'd miss him if I stopped. Re pillows, good luck with with choosing a new pillow.
