Hello again

Honestly, I couldn't eat all that!!

Sorry I have been unable to write. Apart from the back problem I am struggling to understand what is going on with our world. The silence is awful. Still, at least I don't have to worry about creating noise and waking the neighbours.

The back has been playing up something rotten and sitting at the computer doesn't help. I have to type a bit and move out, type a bit and move out, type.... oh you know what I mean. The silence here is killing. I would love it if people broke into song, but I guess there's a law against singing as well as everything else.

It's very strange not having anyone to talk to, except the cat. Neighbours are scared of what might happen if they hang about too long. They would probably get arrested.
It really is an appalling state of affairs. I got a bit scared thinking about what might happen to me now that I am all alone., so persuading big son to phone every day to check on me was a good idea. So far, so good. The thought of having to suffer alone was preying on my mind so I had to do something. So, what he and his partner did was contact the people next door to me and arrange actions if anything happened to me. It's all a bit morbid but I feel better knowing that people will know if anything does happen and can act accordingly. The knowledge made me feel good.

I am sure you and yours are just as fed up with the way of the world right now. Since all shops are closed I bought a load of stuff from Amazon, cat food mainly. Well, I cannot see my pussy cat suffering. It cost a bit but my pussy cat is worth it.

So how are things with you? Have you acclimatised to this new world of ours?

Will dash off now, the phone will be ringing any minute. Take care.

  1. I'm actually doing okay. I'm a home bird anyway, so I find it easy to keep busy. What I'm finding an adjustment is having my partner around all the time. Having spent 33 years leading very separate lives, this is my biggest adjustment.

I hope your back gets a little better. I'm still suffering with bad neck pain from when I fell over last week .

What would we do without online shopping? We seem to be getting stuff from amazon nearly every day.

    1. Same here with the Amazon. Every day purchasing will get to be a habit if I'm not careful lolol.

  2. Valerie, I'm sooooo happy to hear that you have your son and neighbor checking in on you on daily.

And thank god for places like Amazon because I know that many people here in America (and around the globe) are ordering from them. In fact, companies like Amazon (and other online businesses) are the only ones staying afloat during this time when so many businesses are closing. I just heard that Macy's (one of American's department stores) is closing all of their doors permanently. And that story is an American classic that's been around forever.

As you know from my posts, I'm acclimating to this new world of ours by taking each day as it comes. For me, I find that if I take time during the day to watch funny or uplifting movies, it helps to keep me going. I also listen to music throughout the day that is upbeat because that's helps as well.

I also don't stay glued to the news because watching that all day only adds fear and drama. I'm staying very conscious of everything that I'm feeding to my mind right now because that's part of my survival mode. Awareness.

Sending you LOTS of positive energy and love, my friend!

    X to you and Charlie

    1. Sad news about Macey's, Ron. That store attracted me and my visits to NY meant shopping there.

  3. Hi Valerie, It is indeed a strange time right now. I'm glad you have someone checking in with you on a daily basis. I try to phone my own parents who live 2-1/2 hours away on an every other day basis just to check in with them as they are both in frail health at 89 and 91 years of age. I usually visit them on a weekly basis but we now have a "Stay at Home" order and I don't want to chance my giving them the virus as it hasn't yet been identified in their area. I have a sister who lives with my parents to provide their medications and meals so they aren't without support. Stay safe!

  4. The world is in a frenzy and everything has happened so fast that it's almost inconceivable. Life as we once knew it seems to have vanished. It's a difficult change for everyone - - but especially for those of us who live alone. The isolation is deafening.

It was a very good idea to have your son check up on you and also to be in contact with your neighbors. And I'm glad Charlie has food....I certainly hope you have enough, too. Hang in there, take it easy, and keep us posted. These trying times won't last forever. There's always a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.
There are many people who care about you. Big Hugs.

    1. I love your optimism, Jon. You are right about isolation being deafening. I just stopped typing and listened to the silence and promptly switched on the radio.

  5. Actually, things are fairly normal for us. We naturally avoid people anyway. We do have a cat, and taking to him helps, though he usually does not listen. BUt we have to stock pile his food...meaning we have to go out shopping... which scared the heck out of my wife who is convinced everyone is even more scary than normal. Ah well. The good news is if you die, you won't have to clean up the mess.. It's always good to look on the bright side of things. Stay safe, pet the cat, and don't worry about people too much. Think as if they are all out to kill you and then you will not be so lonely... in fact, you may actually find happiness in loneliness... we do. hehe. ( Hope I made you laugh a little bit at least. Stay safe, avoid people... blog more! Unless it hurts your back.)

    1. Oh I love your humour. I laughed so much when I read your optimistic reply that Charlie the cat ran off. Must laugh more often!

  6. I like being alone so this hasn't bothered me too much but I miss seeing my son and his family and my grandson. I do have hubby to talk with and work takes a big chuck of time. Lots of people are working from home these days. I feel for those with young children. Might be hard to keep them occupied while trying to work. Hope your back feels better soon!

    1. Hi Betty. Actually I like my own company, which is all the time. My only concern was something happened to me and nobody knew.

  7. I am acclimating; but only out of necessity to stay safe. When the weather is bad and I can't get out for a walk, I feel like a trapped animal. What is unique about this situation though is that everyone is having the same experience. It's not like an isolated disaster when just a group of people is experiencing it. I guess that's good in a way, that we can feel each other's sadness and isolation. Sending virtual hugs to you.

    1. Received the virtual hugs, many thanks. We are not allowed outside our homes and the silence is awful. I am currently occupied in trying to find the black mouse the cat brought home. I spotted it fleetingly but can't catch it because the bed is too heavy to move. Charlie is now on permanent watch!!

  8. I thought I was adjusting well until an earthquake scared me half to death. I don't think I can take too much more from 2020. Glad you are hanging in there, Val.

  11. I read above about buying from Amazon and have to say online buying is a good idea, but here in Australia, borders between states are closed so anything ordered online, such as dvds, takes about a month to arrive instead of a week or ten days. Ordering within the state, such as groceries from supermarkets is faster of course.

  12. Valerie, so sorry to read about the back pains. My problem is an aching shoulder which is not as painful. And, you are not alone, as long as you are posting and we are commenting. Of course, this doesn't replace human communication by any means. Too bad those neighbors don't understand that they can communicate verbally as long as they maintain proper distancing.
