This and That...

1. The leg is recovering from the recent fall but the wound is taking time healing.

2. Recent three days of sunshine was lovely, but following wind and rain not so good. It is mid-May and fires are still on.

3. Curry for lunch made a change from fish and chips!

4. Squirrel chase. First time I have seen Charlie actually chase one. Pity the squirrel was too fast.

5. For once Charlie the cat got off his backside and decided to chase another Squirrel. Squirrel refused to be caught but I was proud of Charlie for making the effort.

6. Bedroom radiator decided to give up! I sent for emergency service and guy came out to put things right. Only it wasn’t right. Had to call him out again when I saw the wet mess on floor and carpet. The leaking radiator was new in January 2018! The new one will cost an arm and a leg.

7. Re Item 6 above. Because of the mess on the carpet, the helpful guy set about cleaning it. As if he hadn’t enough to do!

8. Two days running I’ve seen goldfinches in the garden. I am cheering because they were once regular visitors and then the visits ceased. Today there were three, right by the house were herbs grow.

9. Fox and baby fox visited garden, closely followed by squirrel and baby squirrel. Is there something going on, I ask myself. Charlie the cat kept his distance, as did I.

10. This is true:
Email from friend: I still have two email addresses for you, which is the right one please?
Reply from me, quoting the email address she just used.
Reply from friend: Good job I asked, I haven’t got that one.
(I’ll excuse her… she’s a lot older than me !!

  1. Valerie, happy to hear that your leg is recovering. We too have had the same weather-- days of sunshine, but then LOTS of wind and rain. It's only June 2nd, and we've already had temperatures in the 90's! I can only imagine the summer we're going to have. Yikes!

Speaking of cats and squirrels, when I was still living in Florida and had two cats, I used to enjoy watching them both sit by my patio screened door and look face to face with the squirrels out in the yard. OMG, it was so funny to see cats and squirrels "eye" each other.

I have radiator heat in my apartment as well, because I live in an older building (constructed in 1930) and love it. Yet, I too have had leaks that needed fixing. Thank god I rent because the maintenance department takes care of thing like that. But not always very well, I might add.

    Your #10 made me LOL!

Have a great week, dear friend.

    X to you and Charlie

    1. Hi Ron, the experts here are putting the fear of God in folk, talking about the world coming to an end. That isn't something I wish to know about. We had three hot days but it soon disappeared and the winds returned to frighten us.

  2. Regarding the email address; I must be real old too as I think I understand what she meant.

  3. Haha, that email comment made me laugh. It's the kinda thing I'd say. :D

Yes what is it with the wind at the moment? Saturday was lovely, went out in the garden to read the newspaper on Sunday and the wind made it impossible!

    1. I still smile when I think of my pal's comment.

  4. The email reply is a cracker. You couldn't make it up. I know someone (not me) who use to leave dog food outside every night for a RAT. He insisted it was the same rat that visited every night. Thanks making me laugh Valerie.

    1. Laughing here, Dave. Maybe we should label food, saying Keep off, this is for the dog. Or cat!

  5. I would love to see a fox and her baby. We've got the usual squirrels and sparrows. Goldfinch is our state bird, they have such a beautiful song. About a month ago we saw a female turkey run by our house, that was quite a sight!

    1. The robin is our 'state' bird, a bird that fascinates me. He never mixes with other varieties and is very much a loner, except when courting.

  6. Hello Valerie, 1. I hope it won’t be too long before your leg heals. 2. We have had a mixture of weather, rain, thunderstorms, sunny. 3. I haven’t had a curry in years. I try a lot of Thai curries but not an Indian curry. It’s now on my list :) 4 and 5, Charlie is getting his exercise. Good for him. 6. Sorry to hear about your bedroom radiator, these things are so expensive to repair. 7. How nice of him to clean up for you, says a lot about the guy. 8. Lovely to get your goldfinches visiting again. I always feel it is a gift to see a bird that hasn’t been visiting for a long time.
    9. How lovely, we had a couple of sightings of foxes in the neighborhood recently. There is a creek with a wooded area not too far away. I think that’s their home. We have lots of squirrels around here and babies appear too. The trees are full of nests. 10. That made me smile, in a good way. I think at some point we have all done this, maybe not with e-mails but with something else that is so simple that it can go over our heads.

    1. I am honoured that you take the trouble to comment on every item. I am still smiling over No.10 but I have kept this to myself rather than upset my friend. Fortunately she doesn't read blogs!

    2. The honor is mine Valerie. No, we don't want to upset our friends. I have three who are British, and we all occasionally tease each other about such things because after all, and as I like to say more often than not, we are in in the same boat, rowing up the same creek with the same paddle ;) Our sense of humor also seems to be very similar, for which I am eternally grateful.

  7. Glad to read that the leg is healing, but most likely not soon enough for you, Valerie. Yikes! On the radiator issue again and the wet carpet and especially the replacement co$t. Like Ron commented above, it does make us thankful that we rent if and when there is a major repair issue. We’ve never seen a fox even when we lived near a wooded area in VA. And, I never knew the robin was your state bird, but then never wondered what birds were considered as such in other countries. In NH where we live, the state bird is the purple finch and state flower is purple lilac and coincidentally it is my favorite color as well!

    1. Sadly, I don't rent. The house was bought right out when Joe was alive. This means, of course, that I cop for all the bills!!!
