Here's the clue to yesterday's 'What is It?'

Today's Moan

I worry about some of our emergency service vehicles and sometimes I worry about my own safety when they bear down on me, forcing me into a situation I find it difficult to get out of, then racing by with inches to spare before taking the paint of my car.

This morning I was in a tight situation, second car in a line-up at red lights. I had the radio on so I was inwardly singing along with one of the latest songs. Suddenly Car.No.1 at the lights shifted as if he’d changed his mind about which direction to go when the lights changed. In other words, he pulled his car sideways in front of me. That’s when I heard the sirens. I had to shift … fast.

Manoeuvring the car up the curb, narrowly missing a pedestrian, I was just in time to escape the onslaught of two emergency vehicles, ambulance and fire engine. At speed they squeezed through the gap that No.1 and I left between us and the traffic light system. Talk about sweating buckets! How my door didn’t get scraped I’ll never know.

At that particular spot I have known fire engines move to the wrong side of the road, crossing the lights in hazardous style. One of these days there’ll be a fatal accident at that section, I just hope it isn’t me.

Further on, travelling down a dual carriageway, I saw the accident. Two cars, badly smashed. I spent the rest of the journey thanking the good Lord for my safe journey.

  1. Okay.. now I will venture a wild guess
and say that is part of an automatic car wash that you captured while getting your
    car washed...

Glad you arrived home safely. Hate those
close calls, but good to exhale when
    it is over.

Stay indoors and enjoy your weekend !!

  2. As for your clue : that settles it. It is a pint of M&B - I remember once finding something like that at the bottom of a glass when I lived in Birmingham at the end of the 60s.

  5. Glad you escaped unscathed! I think the photo looks like those flapping things in a car wash.

  6. Well, I'm still having a challenge figuring out what that photo is. It looks like a brush you see in a car wash?!?

I soooo know what you mean Valerie, because when I had a car in Florida, the same thing occurred. Often, I felt like they were going to smash into the passenger side door, they were THAT close!

Anyway, I hope no one was severly hurt in that accident.

Have a great weekend, dear lady. And stay safe!

  7. It is quite frightening the way the emergency services drive at times. Would it really matter if they drove more slowly (and safely) and arrived at their destination a few minutes later? Probably not.

  8. Kind of a good day to stay at home. If only we could foretell what the day brings. Oh, maybe not.

I had to write this twice. Forgot to enter the code letters first time. What are they all about?

  10. I will, Shifey. Hope your weekend is good, too.

John, the code is called word verification... it's designed to keep out spam and undesirables. Not that it always works but it's considered to be a deterrent.

Cheshire Wife, nice to see you. It's been a while. I guess the pressure is on from the public for emergency services to get to a scene ASAP. In these days of compensation mania I can't really blame them for trying.

Ron, The traffic seemed to me to be worse than ours in the US. There is a difference in that the streets are a helluva lot wider than ours, which means the E.Services can travel at real speeds. I couldn't cope with it over there. It would be walk or nothing for me. Well done on guessing the 'what is it'. Have an enjoyable weekend.

  11. Alan, where did you live in Birmingham to have been offered such rubbish beer?

Pearl, glad it's not just me who dreads hearing sirens.
