Sunday Scenes

This is Alberobella, one of the quaintest spots in Italy, renowned for its unusual Trullo buildings.
More pictures can be seen here.

Typical construction of a trulli in Alberobello. The cavity between the inside wall face and the exterior covering of stone tiles is filled with stone rubble. The vault is one of stone voussoirs (a wedge-shaped or tapered stone used to construct an arch). We had lunch inside one of these buildings. It was quite cosy and definitely one of the most unusual buildings I have ever been in.

  2. Amazing.....Stone insulation! But I gotta tell ya, the roofs (while they're interesting) make me nervous thinking about what would happen if 'the roof fell in'.

  3. Quaint indeed, Valerie!

And very interesting to read about the construction of these buildings.

Even though I've never been to Greece, for some reason this city reminds me of photos and movies I've seen about Greece - white buildings and blue sky!

Just lovely. Thank you for sharing, dear lady!

  5. Hi Ron, A lot of Mediterranean buildings are painting white... 'm not sure of the reason unless it's to reflect the sun. They certainly make the places look clean.

  10. Hi Herman, 89 is really good, just as I remember it. Italy is a must visit country, and especially Alberobello.
